(Diarmuid Herlihy UCC Swimming Coach presenting Sunday's Well SC swimmer Sean O'Riordan with a UCC scholarship award for swimming)

Proud of our tradition the banners say and Sean O'Riordan is a great sense of pride to both Sundays Well SC and UCC. He is studying speech and language therapy on the Cork campus and when he puts the books down can be found in the pool. His coach in UCC Diarmuid Herlihy has great confidence in him. Sean is aiming for a time of 4:45.00 in the Freestyle event. This would qualify him for the 2019 World Para Swimming Championships in Malaysia next July.

Sean does most of his training with Sunday's Well SC at the Gus Healy Pool and his ultimate goal is to swim in the Paralympics in Tokyo in 2020. He's making great strides towards this and at the recent European Para Swimming Championships at the NAC in Dublin Sean finished seventh in the 100m breaststroke final and then followed it up with a personal best in the 200m Freestyle. His time of 2:36.04 helped him to 10th place overall.

So it's been quite the year for Sean both in academic achievements and in the pool this year. He's certainly well on his way to achieving his dreams and he's a testament to his coaches at Sunday's Well SC and UCC who are proud of how well he's doing. Exciting times ahead for Sean O'Riordan!
